What beers to drink in Estonia?

In this article, we try to review Estonian drinks. Since we have a great variety of Estonian drinks such as beers and wines, we decided to take this article as a continuous one. Regarding this approach, we will have 2-3 drinks in every article. These drinks might belong to a specific brand or bar. Here we start with Põhjala which is a famous brewery in Estonia.

Virmalised

The light amber-like color of this Pale Ale beer steals your attention as you pour it into your glass. The first sip shocks you with the taste of orange but this shock won't last long as the taste is later replaced with burned caramel or even honey... Eventually what remains in your mouth is the taste of mango.

About the caramel taste, maybe it’s just me but it reminds me of sweet caramel candies from my childhood. This beer is stronger than usual - it has an alcohol ratio of 6.5%. But the design of the tastes and aromas won't let you feel annoyed by the alcohol; so be careful, you can unknowingly get drunk by enjoying two or three Virmalised.

Pilky

The very first taste is a smooth sweetness that immediately follows the light and expected bitterness of the hop. Pilky is a malt-based pilsner beer (I don’t want to go to beer categories 😊), therefore it is light, silky, and a bit sweet but refreshing. You better drink it cold out of the fridge but not ice-cold. The alcohol percentage is 5 - the usual percentage for a beer. With this beer, you never feel the taste of alcohol which makes it even more smooth and light. The color of the beer is light clear yellow and the foam is not that much. The exciting taste or aroma in this beer is lemon. This lemon taste appears after a couple of sips.

In the end, I can say it’s a light and pleasant beer to drink on any occasion. The usual bitter taste usually associated with most beers is not that significant, which is also the reason that almost anyone can enjoy it.

Uus Maailm

When you read the name of San Diego beer on the bottle and see the jaw of the shark, it reminds you of JAWS 1975. I love the design of POHJALA bottles - this is one of their advantages, but not in this one. The taste of a beautiful pink peach rushes into your mouth with the first sip. This taste remains to the end. The bitterness of the hop disappears so fast, so what you face is a light delicious beer. One good characteristic of this beer is that you never feel that sour fruity taste like other beers which bores you. Ergo, you can enjoy a couple of bottles of it. And finally, the alcohol percentage is 4.7 which makes it a light delicious choice to drink and you can enjoy the peachy taste.
